Eastern College Athletic
Conference
|
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) was founded in 1938
and is the nation's largest athletic conference with 320 members
from Maine to North Carolina and west to Illinois. ECAC members
represent NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the ACC, Atlantic-10, Big
East and Ivy league.
Over 2,500 varsity teams and 122,000 student-athletes compete at
ECAC member institutions. Slightly over 25% of the members of the
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) also belong to the
ECAC.
The ECAC offers 90 championship events for men and women each
academic year and selects a player of the week in football, men's
and women's basketball, and men's and women's ice hockey, men's and
women's swimming & diving and men's and women's track &
field, along with regional all-star teams in Divisions I, II and
III.
The ECAC is responsible for more than 20,000 officiating
assignments each year and provides its members with a legislative
services department and public relations assistance.
In October of 1995 Williams College was awarded the ECAC's first
Jostens Institution of the Year Award for
outstanding achievement in academics and athletics. The Jostens
Institution of the Year Award is the most prestiigious honor
bestowed by the ECAC.
Only Williams (7) and Princeton (3) have won the Jostens Institution of the Year Award
more than once.
