Sports Illustrated senior writer Tim Layden ’78 has received a lot of acclaim for his story about former Eph football standout Mike Reily ’64 and his number 50 jersey. “The Forgotten Hero,” is now included in the book Best American Sports Writing 2012.
“The Forgotten Hero” is one of 20 stories included in the 2012 book as selected by guest editor Michael Wilbon. Stories submitted to the Best American Sports Writing editors come without identification of author or source.
This January a dozen or so Williams students will be able to learn sports writing from Tim Layden when he returns to campus to offer a class on sports writing during the college’s Winter Study.
