Ephs top Keene State, 13-8

CHANDLER, AZ. -- Junior Zach Stone hit 5 for 5 Saturday, helping the Williams College baseball team to its fourth straight victory, a 13-8 decision over Keene State at Snedigar Park.

The Ephs improved to 7-1 with the win, which snapped a five-game win streak for Keene State. The Owls now sit at 9-3.

Williams is off Sunday before playing a doubleheader Monday against Gustavus Adolphus at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. The first game begins at 9:30 a.m. MST.

Williams continued to hit the ball well against Keene State, accumulating 14 hits. No one was hotter than Stone's perfect five-hit day, although senior Max Pinto went 3 for 5.

Junior Dan Benz earned the win for the Ephs by going seven strong innings. He allowed eight hits and two walks while fanning three batters. He was charged with five runs, all earned. First-year Dan Marcet finished up the final two frames.

Williams held a slim 3-2 lead entering the top of the fifth when it erupted for five runs. Junior Barrett Allison triggered the eruption with a lead-off double. Robin Allemand drew a walk, and James DiCosmo laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt. An error on the play allowed Allison to score and the runners to advance to second and third.

Pinto followed that by blasting a two-run triple. Taylor Mikell brought him home with an RBI-single. Stone then singled, and Trey Pendrey scored Mikell with an RBI-single for an 8-2 lead.

The Ephs added four more runs in the sixth to take a 12-5 lead. Stone had a two-run single, and Mikell and Chad Brown each had RBI-singles.
