HADLEY, MA. — A trio of Williams College baseball team members — senior cocaptains Max Pinto and James DiCosmo, junior Dan Benz — were named First Team All-NESCAC Wednesday, while a fourth, sophomore Al Mathews, garnered Second Team honors.

Williams completed its 2008 season with a 24-12 record. They won the NESCAC West Division for the second season in a row before bowing out of the conference tournament in two games.

Pinto led Williams with a .388 batting average, banging out 50 hits in 129 at-bats. His .509 on-base percentage and his .659 slugging percentage were also tops on the team. He was a perfect 12 for 12 in stolen base attempts. His 15 doubles, four home runs and 40 RBI were also team-leading figures. The Ephs starting center fielder did not commit an error on the season.

DiCosmo also played in all 36 games, starting 34, and hit a career-high .382 for the Ephs, mostly out of the lead-off spot. His 52 hits led the team, while his 38 runs scored were tied for second. DiCosmo had a .960 fielding percentage as the starting second baseman. He finished with a .450 on-base percentage and 11 steals in 13 attempts.

Benz, the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2006, was a leader on the mound for Williams. He topped the club in wins (6), starts (9) and complete games (2). He also led in innings pitched (59) and strikeouts (56). Benz held opponents to a .198 average over the season.
