SERIES: Began in 1881, marking the beginning of the Williams College football program. The Ephmen were defeated by the Cardinals in that debut 10-0, but since that loss, they have compiled a commanding lead in the nearly 120-year old series, posting a 74-37-5 overall record. Williams has gone 22-2 in the last 24 meetings between these Little Three rivals, including their current streak of 11 consecutive victories.
The Williams-Wesleyan series is tied with the Amherst-Wesleyan and the Hampden-Sydney vs. Randolph-Macon series for the seventh most played rivalry in Div. III.
Last year in Williamstown Eph QB Pat Moffitt hit on 18 of 25 passes for 292 yards and 4 TDs in a 45-7 eph win.
The last Wesleyan win came in 1999 on Andrus Field when they outgunned the Ephs 33-28.
COACHES: Aaron Kelton (12-2) is in his second year at the helm of the Ephs. Kelton was the first Eph head football coach to debut with a perfect season (8-0-0) in 2010, when he led the Ephs to the Little Three and NESCAC titles, while earning NESCAC Coach of the Year honors.
Kelton is the first African American head football coach at Williams and in NESCAC.
Kelton is 1-0 vs. Wesleyan
Mike Whalen (45-17) returned to his alma mater as the head coach of football and the assistant director of athletics in 2010. Prior to his hiring, Whalen had been at the helm of the Williams football program for six seasons. In 2006, he guided the Ephs to their sixth undefeated season in school history, earning a NESCAC Championship and Coach of the Year honors.
The Eph program captured four Little Three titles during his tenure, and his teams never finished with a record worse than 6-2. He went a perfect 6-0 against Wesleyan in those seasons.
Whalen is 0-1 vs. Williams.
AWARDS: Eph junior LB Chris Cameron was named Co-NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the ephs' 14-7 win over Hamilton. Cameron tallied seven tackles (6 solo), 2 TFLs for a loss, forced a fumble, and recovered a fumble.
