SERIES:  Began in 1881, marking the beginning of the Williams College football program.

The Ephs were defeated by the Cardinals in that initial contest played in Springfield, Mass., 10-0, but since that loss, Williams has compiled a commanding lead in the now 118-year old series.

The Ephs are 75-37-5 overall versus Wesleyan. 

Williams has gone 23-2 in the last 25 meetings between these Little Three rivals, including their current streak, which now sits at 12.

Last Wesleyan win came in 1999 in Middletown 33-28. Last Wesleyan win on Weston Field 1986, 42-28.

LITTLE THREE: The nation's oldest continuous football conference without a membership change. The formal triangular football competition between Williams, Amherst and Wesleyan began in 1910.

COACHES:  Williams head coach Aaron Kelton is 16-6 and in his third season at the helm of the Ephs.

Kelton is the first African American head football coach at Williams and in NESCAC, as well as the first Eph football head coach to debut with a perfect season (8-0-0).

Kelton was named the 2010 NESCAC Coach of the Year.

Kelton is 2-0 vs. Wesleyan in matchups against the coach he succeeded at Williams.

Wesleyan head coach Mike Whalen is in his third year at the helm of the Cardinals after coaching Williams the previous six seasons. Whalen is 12-10 at Wesleyan and he compiled a record of 38-10 at Williams.

Whalen also serves as the Wesleyan Athletic Director.

Whalen is 0-2 vs. Williams.

LAST MEETING: In Middletown, Conn., an 18-yard third quarter field goal by Sebastian Aguirre gave Wesleyan a 17-16 lead. With 4:48 to play in the game Eph placekicker Joe Mallock connected on a 40-yard field goal to provide the game's final points and deliver the Ephs a 19-17 win.

Key to the Eph win was the purple defense holding the Wesleyan ground game to just 60 yards, while the Eph offensive line aided the Eph backs in racking up 124 yards on the ground.


LAST WEEK: At home Wesleyan fell behind Bowdoin 14-0 just 10 minutes in, but the Cardinals got their ground game organized and proceeded to score 17 unanswered points to take a 17-14 lead at the half. The Cardinals added two more rushing TDs in the second half and Sebastian Aguirre hit a second FG as Wesleyan topped Bowdoin 34-17.

Wesleyan accumulated 454 yards in total offense with 284 on the ground and 153 by LaDarius Drew. Jared Goldenberg led the Cardinals' defense with 12 tackles. Wesleyan picked off 5 Bowdoin passes in securing their 5th win of the season.

In Clinton, NY the Ephs got a 90-yard kickoff return for a TD by Darren Hartwell on the game's first play and a 38-yard TD catch by Hartwell in outlasting Hamilton 34-26. Senior RB Tom Wohlwender rushed for 130 yards and 2 TDs.

Sophomore LB Antonio Blanco notched a game-high 13 tackles and picked off a Hamilton pass in helping the Ephs win their second straight game.

STREAKS:  Williams enters the game with a modest 2-game win streak, while the Cardinals won their last time out.

The Ephs have defeated the Cardinals 12 consecutive times and have also won the last 12 games on Weston Field.

AWARDS: Wesleyan defensive back Jake Bussani won his second NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for leading the Cardinals past Bowdoin last Saturday. Bussani intercepted a pair of passes, recovered a fumble and made three tackles.

Williams senior WR/Kick Return Specialist Darren Hartwell was named the NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Ephs' win at Hamilton. Hartwell returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD and his three kickoff returns accounted for 138 yards. He returned four punts 73 yards and his six receptions went for 86 yards, giving him 297 all-purpose yards and two TDs on the day. His 38-yard TD catch set the Eph career TD catch record at 19.
