First Round of NESCAC Qualifier to Resume Tomorrow Morning; Hamilton currently in the Lead

COMPLETE RESULTS for Rd. 1 updated 2:00 PM 10/4
Williamstown, MA – After an extended
weather delay this morning, the first round of the NESCAC
Championship got underway at the Waubeeka Golf Links. Under cloudy
skies and sporadic rain, the top golfers in the NESCAC found their
stride on the par 71, 6,229 yard track.
Due to the darkness, the final two groups of the final wave still
have two holes remaining before the completion of their round. The
four teams that have yet to complete their first rounds are
Trinity, Williams, Tufts, and Wesleyan.
Their rounds will resume tomorrow at 9:30 A.M., weather
permitting.
Of the teams that have completed their rounds, Hamilton is atop
the leaderboard with a stellar team score of 291. Brach Roche and
Phil Priess both fired even par rounds of 71 in the wet conditions.
Supporting right behind was Hans Schulte with a solid 74, and Scott
Blosser played well, shooting 75 to round out the scores.
Two of the Williams College golfers have yet to finish, but it
looks as if the Ephs will be playing in the final wave tomorrow,
along with Tufts, Middlebury and Hamilton. Williams so far has
three scores, with sophomore Chris Valle leading Williams with a
73. First Year Wyatt Sparks and junior Jack Killea also shot round
of 75 and 76, respectively. They are projected to come in with a
team score of 296.
Tufts is also projected to finish with a strong score (300
projected) in their first round, as Mike McCarthy and Bret Hershman
shot solid rounds of 75 and 79, respectively. They, like Williams,
are awaiting the scores of Dan Moll and Luke Heffernan to complete
their round one score.
All of Middlebury’s players finished their rounds today, as
they posted a team score of 305. Jim Levins and Andrew Emerson were
low for the Panthers, as they both shot a pair of very solid
73’s today. Billy Prince shot a 77, and Jesse Keenan rounded
the scoring with an 82.
Trinity is close behind Middlebury for the fourth spot after day
one, as they are projected to finish with a 307 team score.
However, if Trinity’s final two players make a couple of
birdies on the last two holes tomorrow morning, Trinity and may
very well be switching places with Middlebury and be teeing off in
the final wave. So far, Jack Palley and Dave Anderson have come in
with scores of 77 and 78, respectively.
Low scores for the first round so far still belong to the Hamilton
duo of Brad Roche and Phil Priess at even par 71.
Tomorrow’s final round will resume at 11:00 AM, after the
completion of the first round. Hopefully, the skies will clear up
and give the players some good weather to enjoy while trying to put
birdies on their scorecard.
