Men's Golf First after round one of Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury

Day 1 Results

Middlebury, VT
– Coming off their momentum after last week’s big win, the Williams men’s golf team continued their strong play today at the Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Club.

In blustery conditions, with high winds, the Ephs find themselves leading by twos shot ahead of the pack after a day one total of 307. Salem State lurks close behind at 309, with host Middlebury and Manhattanville six strokes behind at 313.

First Year Jack Ervasti led the way for the Ephs with a solid 75 in his first competitive round at the tricky Ralph Myhre course. Supporting Ervasti with two 77’s were Jack Killea ’11, who continues his strong play after his second place finish individually at the Williams Invitational last weekend, and Chris Valle ’12, who has been showing steady form. Bob Camp ’11 scored in with a 78, and Jake Wagner ’11 finished with a 79.

Williams was the only team in the field to have all five of its players shoot in the 70’s, a testament to the depth of the team.

"We played very well today and seemingly made fewer mistakes that most of the teams on a day where high winds made scoring very difficult,” said Coach Pohle. “We made a ton of pars and kept the big numbers to a minimum which is very hard to do on the Ralph Myhre GC."

Tomorrow’s round will commence at 9:00 AM with a shotgun start, weather permitting.
