Williams Takes Eight Stroke Lead into Sunday at Duke Nelson

Round 1 Results

Middlebury, VT – The Williams men's golf team leads after round one of the Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College.  The Ephs paced the field with a stellar team score of 298, which places them eight ahead of second-place defending champion Skidmore College. Skidmore was ranked 14th in the national Divison III preseason poll. NESCAC rival Trinity College is in third after its 309, and the host Panthers are in fourth with 310.

In windy and chilly weather at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course, Williams junior Ross Bowen fired the round of the day, an even-par 71.  Teammate Jake Goldenring is tied for second place with RPI's Brandon Mader; both carded rounds of one-over 72.  A pair of juniors rounded out scores for Williams.  Dylan Dethier played well on the homeward nine on his way to 74.  Jake Abrahams struggled on the greens and shot 81.

There will be a shotgun start tomorrow at 9 A.M.  Williams will play in foursomes with Skidmore, Trinity, and Middlebury as it looks to win its second event of the fall campaign.
