Ephs win third straight, defeat Castleton College 3-1

RUTLAND, VT - The Williams College men’s hockey scored the
games first three goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Castleton
College Saturday. The Ephs used two power play goals and a solid 32
saves from goaltender Marc Pulde to propel them to victory. The
victory extends their season high win-streak to three games and
returns them to .500 at 5-5-1.
Brian Malchoff kicked off the scoring when, on the power play, he
converted an Owen Holm pass 10:28 into the first period. Andrew
Lepore would follow, with what would prove to be the game-winner,
at the 5:52 mark of the second period.
The Ephs and Spartans would trade power plays goals late in the
second period, with Brandon Jackmuff and Matthew Link each netting
goals for their respective teams. However, neither team could break
the other in the third and the game ended with a 3-1 victory for
the Ephs.
Despite being out shot (31 Ephs - 33 Castleton) and committing two
more penalties (7 Ephs - 5 Castleton), the Ephs played inspired
hockey and hit the big shots - which proved to be all the
difference for the otherwise statistically balanced teams.
The Ephs look to go over .500 for the first time on the
season next Tuesday the 15th against NESCAC conference leader
Middlebury (4-1-1, 8-2-1) in Williamstown.
