SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Williams College men's hockey team fell 5-1 in the finals of the Skidmore Invitational Tournament to the host team Sunday. The defeat is just the first of the season for the Ephs (3-1) , and snaps their season starting streak of three straight wins. Skidmore climbs back to even with the win and now sits at 2-2.
The Ephs were in it through the first two periods, but the Thoroughbreds broke open a 2-1 game with three consecutive scores in the opening 4:41 of the final period.
Skidmore kicked off the scoring late in the first period, when Brett Bandazian knocked in a power play score and gave the Thoroughbreads the 1-0 lead after a third of play.
The tournament champions would add another score at the 5:19 mark of the second period, before Evan Seely put the Ephs on the scoreboard just 1:08 later with his first tally of the season.
But that would prove to be as close as it would get, as Matt Czerkowicz would set up two of the three quick scores of the third period and give the Thoroughbreds a comfortable 5-1 victory.
Despite the disappointing loss, Ephs' Ryan Young and Brett Haraguchi received all-tournament honors.
The Ephs look to get back into the win column next Friday, December 5th, when they travel to Maine to take on Southern Maine. That game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
