WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- A year ago at the NCAA
Division III Swimming & Diving Championships the Williams Ephs
finished in 21st place with four competitors
entered.
This year the Ephs will have 9 men competing. “After only
bringing 4 last year. this is a very good step in the right
direction,” noted Eph head coach Steve Kuster. We have a
few strong relays, but weren't able to get all our relays there, so
our scoring potential will be hurt a little by that.”
I am very hopeful that we can improve on showing last year,” Kuster stated. “Of the 9, only Gary Roberson and Ben Wampler have ever been to the [NCAA] meet, so much of our success will hinge on the new guys being ready to get it done.”
Kuster is hoping the Ephs can move up this time around and crack the top 15. “Hoping top 15, but really not sure where we can be, this bunch is very green and unpredictable.”
“Our free relays are hopefully poised to finish in the top 8 if they can repeat or improve on NESCAC performances. We will hope to piece together Medley Relays (which weren't invited) that can squeak into the top 16.”
“Gary Roberson and Ben Wampler are seeded well in the 200, 500, 1650 free and 50 and 100 free respectively. Hopefully some individual points to add to the relay points will come from those two.”
