Ephs down Point Loma 6-3 in West Coast Opener

SAN DIEGO, CA – Dave Donn's Williams men's tennis tam
opened the spring portion of its schedule with a convincing 6-3
decision over the Sea Lions of Point Loma Nazarene.
With the women's match immediately following and only six courts
available the match started with singles play. The Ephs won five of
those six encounters, with the lone defeat coming at number two
where Nick Lebedoff fell in three sets.
Donn was happy with the way his Ephs played in their first outing
of the spring, especially in the singles matches. "Even though Nick
Lebedff lost he played the way we've been preaching – play
every point as though you are down match point. We want every team
we play to know that they have to play every point for three hours
if they expect to beat us."
With the win the Ephs improve to 3-0 overall in 2007-08 and the
Sea Lions fall to 6-6.
Senior Gary Simonette got off to a slow start in his match and
rallied to win the next two sets decisively.
Opening up with a 5-1 lead at the end of singles, Donn wanted his
Ephs to come out strong in doubles play. "We're not naturally a
good doubles team," said Donn. "But we're getting close and all
three matches were close today."
Next up for the Ephs is a match at Pomona-Pirtzer tomorrow at 2;00
pm PST.
Check back later to see a photo gallery after the women's match is
