Ephs defeat Pomona-Pitzer 8-1 to improve to 4-0

CLAREMONT, CA – The 9th-ranked Williams Ephs squared off with the 30th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens this afternoon and the Ephs came out on top 8-1.
“This was a good win over a ranked team,” said Eph head coach Dave Donn. “Our doubles play took another step in the right direction today by winning two of the three matches.”
With the win the Ephs upped their record to 4-0 and the Sagehens fell to 4-9.
The Ephs swept the singles play with all of the wins coming in straight sets. “The bottom of our lineup is a real strength for us,” stated Donn. “Again today they got out early and got some quick wins to set the table for the rest of the lineup.” At four Karol Furmaga won 6-2, 6-4 and Rick Devlin (5) and Jeremy Weinstein (6) both won without losing a game.
The Ephs will be in action again tomorrow afternoon when they play their last match in California at the University of Redlands at 2:00 pm PST.
