#4 Ephs cruise past Union, 9-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – Men’s tennis cruised past visiting Union College this afternoon to pick up their first home win of the spring season in a 9-0 sweep.
Returning from a successful west coast swing in which the Ephs posted a 5-1 record and defeated four nationally ranked squads, Williams is now 8-1 on the season. With the loss, Union falls to 2-5 on the season.
All three doubles teams put together convincing victories to start off the match. At court one, Bret Thacher and Dan Greenberg posted an 8-4 victory, while the Williams duos at court two and three managed quick 8-2 and 8-1 victories respectively.
The Ephs winning ways continued with singles play as all six players defeated the opposition in straight sets. Greenberg faced off against Union’s Trey Minter in a tough first set tiebreak, but Williams' number-one player prevailed and came out firing in the second set to put away the match.
The remaining five Ephs gave up a total of only four games to the Dutchmen. Nick Lebedoff, Jeremy Weinberger, and Rick Devlin were particularly impressive at courts two, three, and five as each player dominated in two 6-0 sets.
“It was a nice win for us coming back from spring break,” commented Ephs head coach David Donn. “It was a good tune up for Amherst this weekend.”
Williams has risen five spots in the rankings to #4 in the nation, and will begin the meat of their conference schedule this Saturday against archrival Amherst at 1:00 p.m. at home.
