Ephs earn at-large berth into NCAA Tournament, are No. 1 seed

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The Williams College men's tennis team (15-3) has been awarded an at-large berth into the 2008 NCAA Div. III Tournament and is the No. 1 seed at a six-team regional to be held at the College of New Jersey beginning Friday.
Forty-one (41) teams will participate in this year's tournament. The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second and third rounds played at non-predetermined regional sites. The quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds will be played at Bates College. Finals competition will also be held at Bates College, May 13-18.
The selection of teams for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
The committee selected teams from the following: Pool A – 26 teams from conferences with automatic qualifiers. Pool B – eight teams from independents or conferences without automatic qualifiers. Pool C – seven additional teams from conferences with or without automatic qualifiers and independents. Williams was one of the seven Pool C qualifiers.
Williams has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament in each of the past 11 seasons.
"We're very excited and honored to be a No. 1 seed in this year's tournament, it is a testament to how hard the team has worked this year," Ephs head coach Dave Donn said. "At the same time, having four Top 25 teams within our region we realize it is going to be a test and one that we will have to play extremely well to get through."
