Dan Austin '06 does not advance at U.S. Olympic discus trials
Dan Austin (Mechanicsburg, PA) placed 11th in the 12-person
second flight of throwers at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field
Trials in the discus Wednesday night in Eugene, Oregon and did not
advance to the finals of the event.
Austin was attempting to overcome a self-imposed layoff from the
event after a subpar throwing year as a graduate student at the
University of Arizona. He was hoping to re-gain the form and
technique that enabled him to throw 208' feet shortly after
graduating from Williams in 2006 and contest for a spot on the U.S.
Olympic Team headed to Beijing.
Austin's best throw of the competition sailed 53.12m (174' 3").
Soon Austin will join Teach for America in the New York City area
and he has been assigned to a school in the Bronx. He may choose to
continue throwing while participating in Teach for America due to
the history of discus throwers maturing in their late 20s and/or
early 30s.
