Middlebury, VT – The Williams College ski team placed
seventh with a team score of 336 points in the first day of the
Eastern Championships held at Middlebury College in Vermont. The
Alpine team had their slalom races while the Nordic team had their
free technique races.
The Alpine men’s team placed fourth in the slalom race with
an overall team score of 105 points. Senior team captain Charles
Christianson won the slalom race with a first run time of 43.48 and
the second run time of 46.91. Alex Dyroff, sophomore, placed 15th
with a first run time of 46.11 and a second run time of 46.94.
Tavis Moonan, senior, placed 21st with a first run time of 45.74
and a second run time of 47.72. Junior Eric Mann placed 24th with a
first run time of 46.94 and a second run time of 47.08. Alex
Reeves, freshman, placed 30th with a first run time of 47.19 and a
second run time of 48.09.

In the women’s slalom, sophomore Kelsey Levine was the top
finisher for the team, placing 14th with a first run time of 50.83
and a second run time of 51.09. Emily Porter, sophomore, placed
19th with a first run time of 51.16 and a second run time of 52.31.
Freshman Annie Hanson placed 40th with a first run time of 59.65
and a second run of 53.36. The women’s team placed sixth
overall with a team score of 74 points.
The Nordic men’s team placed ninth in the 10K free technique
race with a team score of 70 points. Top finisher for the Ephs was
sophomore Mark Johnson, placing 23rd with a race time of 23:51.9.
Alexander Taylor, sophomore, placed 26th with a race time of
24:00.7. Freshman Caleb Lucy placed 40th with a race time of
24:25.4. Team captain Sam Kapala, junior, was also a top finisher
for the Ephs, placing 41st with a race time of 24:29.0.
In the women’s 5K free technique race, sophomore Alice
Nelson placed 11th for the Ephs with a race time of 14:15.2.
Kirsten Johnson, freshman, placed 20th with a race time of 14:34.8.
Gabrielle Joffe, freshman, placed 25th with a race time of 14:47.7.
Junior Liz Kantack placed 33rd with a race time of 15:13.5 and
junior Fiona Worcester placed 39th with a race time of 15:28.1.
Overall, the women’s team placed sixth in the race with 87
points.
The carnival continues tomorrow with the Alpine giant slalom races
and the Nordic classic races. Events start with the first run of
the women’s giant slalom race at 9:30am.
