
SOUTH HADLEY, MA — Williams College junior forward Claire Baecher has earned the NEWBA/PrestoSports Player of the Week award for the time period of November 14-27.
Baecher averaged 17.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while piling up 20 blocked shots for the Ephs. She knocked down 55.1% (27-49) of her shots from the field and 69.2% (9-13) of her free throw attempts.
The forward was named Most Valuable Player of the Williams Tip-Off Tournament after leading her team to a 61-39 triumph over Babson College in the title game. In addition to posting a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds, she also racked up nine blocks. One day earlier, she exploded for 21 points and seven rebounds in a 56-53 victory over Whitman College.
After collecting 19 points, six rebounds and eight swats in a 62-42 win over Springfield College, Baecher added 14 points and eight boards in a 87-65 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She drained three shots from beyond the arc against Springfield.
The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) provides support for coaches from the New England Region. Membership in NEWBA is open to all Division III head coaches from the region who have a vested interest in the welfare of the organization. At the conclusion of each season, the NEWBA sponsors the Senior All-Star Classic.
