Ephs Overtake Fairfield for 3rd at Mount Holyoke Invitational

South Hadley, MA -- The Ephs finished off Day 2 of the Mount Holyoke Invitational at The Orchards with a final score of 667 (Day 1: 332, Day 2: 335), which put them in 3rd place out of the 15 competing teams, despite the day-long rain and cold. St. Lawrence had an outstanding performance all weekend, which led to a 1st place victory while Amherst College managed to seize 2nd place due to the performance of junior Hayley Milbourn who came away as the number one performer in the tournament. The Eph’s Anne O’Leary tied for second place with Aimee Caligore of St. Lawrence with a score of 80, 78 = 158.
In addition to O’Leary’s stellar individual performance, the team managed to come together and was able to overtake Fairfield to place third. Victoria Student turned in a score of 85 while Gelber and Miller ea ch finished with a score of 86, and Kristen Tubbs followed with an 88.
Coach Erika DeSanty had high hopes for the
team this weekend and noted that she was, “Proud of the
effort the team showed all weekend, especially considering the less
than desirable conditions. The way they pushed through it says a
lot.”
In regards to Anne O’Leary’s performance she said,
“Anne has continued to imporess me. She is playing
consistently well. She was originally struggling but found a way to
pull through, which takes stores of mental strength.”
Coach DeSanty is confident that the team is close to accomplishing
great things. “The team is committed to pushing each other
and we’re so close to breaking through. I’m waiting for
it and if we continue to work as hard as he have, I’m sure
we’re going to get it.”
