2008 -- 8th at NCAA Championships

2007 -- 10th at NCAA Championships

About the Program

In 2004 women’s golf played its inaugural season as the newest varsity sport at Williams.  In just three short years, the program has grown remarkably, achieving a berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship in the spring of 2007.  The team practices at the Taconic Golf Club — one of the top rated college golf courses in the country.  Taconic is located just a short walk from the heart of campus.  Please go to www.taconicgolf.com for more information on the course.

The varsity team plays both a fall and a spring schedule with competitive practices and tournaments in both seasons.  The fall is highlighted by six weeks of invitational play throughout New England and the northeast while the spring season begins with a playing trip to a warmer climate and ends with the NCAA Championship in May.

Candidates for the golf team begin practicing during the first week of classes in the fall semester.  Eighteen hole rounds, challenge matches, and short game work in putting, chipping, and bunker areas are all segments of practices in both seasons.  State of the art video equipment allows players and coaches to do swing analysis on a regular basis as well.  In the case of inclement weather we use three indoor hitting areas on campus.  Five players comprise the team at tournaments but the roster may be as large as ten to twelve players.  Varsity golfers come from all over the country and various golf experiences but all are expected to be very serious about competing and representing Williams.

In season, athletes make golf their highest priority along with academics, but there is time throughout the year to participate in other activities.  Varsity golfers have performed in music and dance groups, served as Junior advisors and House Coordinators, participated in theater, student government, been teaching assistants, studied abroad, played other club sports and received some of the highest honors given by the College. Although golf is a two-season commitment you still can take advantage of the incredible number of things to be involved with on campus as well as pursue all of your academic goals.

2007-08 Recap

The Ephs won four of 10 competitions over the fall and spring seasons taking home top honors at Middlebury, Vassar, the Massachusetts State Championship, and won the NESCAC Tournament for the second year in a row. In the other six events the Ephs finished no lower than 6th and that was in the first event of the fall at St. Lawrence.

The Ephs qualified for their second straight NCAA Tournament and finished 8th. Junior Laura Koplik and sophomore Anne O'Leary were both named All-Region players and for the second year in a row both Koplik and O'Leary were named All-American Scholars.

2006-07 Recap

The young Ephs, three frosh and two sophomores, had the best year in the short history of Williams women’s golf.  The highlight of the fall season was an all-time team best score of 326 at home to capture the Columbus Day Tournament and become champions of the NESCAC Tournament.  At Mount Holyoke in September the Ephs recorded their all-time best team score for one round with a 318.

In the spring of 2007, the Ephs won three of their five regular season tournaments. Their overall performance earned the team a bid in the 2007 NCAA Tournament — a first for Williams women’s golf.  The team finished 10th of the twenty teams in the field.
