Ephwomen extend lead on Day 2 of NESCACs

MIDDLETOWN, CT- The Williams College women’s swimming and diving team extended their lead on Day 2 of the NESCAC Championships. The seven-time defending champion Ephs (1,322.0) tallied three event conference titles en route to a 295.5 lead over second-place Middlebury (1026.5).
"It was a fantastic day," said head coach Steve Kuster. "We had an outstanding morning session and unlike yesterday we backed it up with an even better night session."
The Ephs started off the day strong in the 200 yard medley relay (1:47.71 NATB) as junior Courtney Asher, sophomore Lisa Cucolo, and first years Nancy McInerney and Olivia Card-Childers took home the title. In the 1000 yard freestyle, the Ephs represented two-thirds of the top three as first year Ryan McChesney (10:22.09) grabbed the title and junior Mary Wilson Molen (10:28.79) finished third.
The most successful event on the day for the Ephs was the 400 yard IM. Junior Amanda Nicholson (4:26.03 NATA – 1st, Meet Record), first year Ellen Ramsey (4:28.53 NATA – 2nd), and senior Crissy Haley (4:30.77 NATA – 3rd) took home the top three spots in the event.
Rounding out the top performances for the Ephs were McInerney’s second place finish (58.31 NATB) in the 100 yard butterfly, Asher’s third place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.59 NATB), and the second place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay by Ramsey, McChesney, and sophomores Sophia Sequeria and Christina Metcalf (7:41.80 NATB).
The Ephs look to maintain their lead and bring home a NESCAC Championship in tomorrow’s final events.
