Capute and Li Advance to Semis B-draw
Holyoke, MA – On a tough day of competition for the defending national champion Williams women’s tennis team, a pair of underclassmen stole the show. Sophomore Caroline Capute and first-year Veranika Li won three matches to advance to the semifinals of the B-draw tomorrow.
Capute ’12 and Li ’13 began their tournament by beating Holyoke’s #2 team 3-0 in the first round on Friday night. Today, they defeated Colby’s #5 team of Mackenzie Love and Valerie Meehan 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals and then topped Wheaton’s #3 team of Elly Van Faasen and Rosalyn Chesky.
Despite strong efforts, no other Eph team was
able to advance beyond the quarterfinals. Krisitn Alotta
’12 and co-captain Ashley Parsons ’10 lost 2-1 to the
Amherst’s #5 team in the opening round. Alotta and Parsons
defeated the #1 team from Brandeis 2-1 in a consolation
match. Nikki Reich
’11 and Taylor French ’12 defeated the top team from
Wheaton of Sarah Geocaris and Katherine Teague 3-0, but fell to
Amherst’s #1 team 2-1 in the quarterfinals. Grace Baljon ’10 and Lucy
Marchese ’11 beat Bates’ top team of Alex Piaqod and
Meg Anderson 3-0, but fell to MIT’s #1 team of Leslie Hansen
and Anastasia Vishnevetsky. Nancy Worley ’13 and Genny
Loomis ’11 fell to Bowdoin’s top team of Kellen
Albersone and Shantelle Levertu 2-1.
