WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Williams College's top women's pairing of junior Kara Shoemaker and sophomore Rebecca Curran are headed to the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama, this weekend for the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.
The event is scheduled to be played October 11-14 and could include a berth in the Super Bowl competition following the Division III tourney.
Shoemaker and Curran earned a berth in Mobile event by virtue of their doubles championship at the USTA/ITA New England Regional that was played at MIT in September.
This will be Shoemaker's second straight trip to the National Small College Championships. A year ago Shoemaker teamed with senior Nancy Worley and that duo finished seventh in the tournament.
Curran is making her first appearance in the Division III National Small College Championships.
Shoemaker and Curran have compiled a doubles record of 10-0 this fall.
In the quarterfinal round on Thursday at 3:00 PM the Eph duo is matched up against Ava Sadeghi and Samantha Schapiro of Vassar.
"Kara and Rebecca gelled as a doubles team from the first day of practice this fall," noted Eph head coach Alison Swain. "They both are competitive, yet positive and bring a lot of energy to the court, so their chemistry clicks. They are also committed to playing aggressive doubles and play a more traditional two at net style, which has enabled them to impose their own game plan on their opponents. I'm excited that they have earned the opportunity to travel to the National Small College Tournament. It will be a great competitive experience for them, and they will return with helpful feedback for the entire team on our doubles."
The women's semifinal round will be played Friday at 1:00 PM, while the finals are scheduled for 5:00 PM the same day.
