Williams women’s tennis fall season comes to a close

SOUTH HADLEY, MA – After a long weekend, the Ephs returned home from NEWITTs – the last event of the fall season.

The last Williams team left standing was the pair of Pylypiv/McCoy, who lost in their Semi Final match to the Amherst Pair of Newman/Pangalos 2-1.  Amherst won doubles 9-8 (3) and one singles match (Newman) against Pylypiv 6-3, 6-0.  McCoy won her singles match against Pangalos 6-1, 6-2.  Of note for coach Alison Swain was the improvement of "level of play over the course of the tournament [for Maria and Riqui]".

One additional doubles consolation match was also played between Worley/Li and Middlebury's Paradies/Marchese.  Williams won this match 8-2.

Although this tournament was unsanctioned, it marks the end of the fall tennis season. Coach Swain remarked that it allowed "the first years [an] opportunity to play some experienced lineup players from other schools."  As the Ephs take a break from competition play over the winter she thinks, "we have positive momentum to carry us forward into the spring season, as well as a strong drive to continue to improve.  With four first years on the team, the fall has been about gaining playing experience and honing in on areas where we can improve in the months ahead."
