WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- Three teams competed at this year's
Plansky Invitational hosted by Williams College. Williams' Emily Barecca '14 took the individual titlle, while Connecticut College took the team title.
The hilly 5k course at Mt. Greylock High School was made even more challenging by this week's rain, which left the trails soggy for today's Plansky Invitatoinal. Williams' junior Emily Barecca took first in a time of 21:43. Ariana Beers and Michelle Wesley of Conn College took 2nd and 3rd individually with the same time of 22:03.
The five Williams scorers were all either freshman or juniors. Sophie Chatas '16 came in behind Barecca taking 6th in 22:19. Allie Rowe '16 and Meredith Sopher '14 were next for williams crossing the line in times of 22:58 and 23:01, respectively. Kim Kiplagat '15 rounded out the scoring for Williams in 13th place.
Williams sat out most of its top runners this weekend in an effort to train-through for championship season, which begins next weekend with NESCAC championships at Bowdoin College. Connecticut College, who unlike Williams had most of their top squad there, took the team title with 21 pts over Williams with 41 pts. Fitchburg State came in 3rd with 60 points.
Head Coach Pete Farwell had this to say about today's race:
"Our group today competed well, in what for most was their first opportunity to score for the team. Several women had breakout races in that regard, as we came from behind to snatch 2nd place away from Fitchburg. All in all it was a fun and fast final meet for that squad of Williams women. "
