10 Years Ago (Spring 2014)

Jack Roberts ’17 went 4-7 with two runs scored and one RBI in two games against Hamilton.
  • Baseball: Back-to-back complete games propel Ephs (April 30, 2014) – “Last Sunday, men’s baseball (10-14, 6-5 in the NESCAC) hosted NESCAC west opponent Hamilton for a doubleheader at Bobby Coombes Field. Williams swept both games, getting the most out of their starting pitching as both Steve Marino ’14 and Thomas Murphy ’15 pitched complete games.” Continue reading here.
  • Crew (Men’s): Men’s crew medals all boats at ECAC Championship (May 14, 2014) – “On Sunday, men’s crew traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. for the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC), the team’s last competition of the season as well as the final collegiate races for six seniors.” Continue reading here.
  • Crew (Women’s): Women’s crew notches Little 3, Onota Cup wins (April 30, 2014) – “Last Saturday, women’s crew defended the Onota Cup on its home course in Pittsfield, Mass., facing Coast Guard and Ithaca.” Continue reading here.

Emily Wickstrom ’14 fired a solid 80 on Day One of competition at the Northeast Elite Invitational at Taconic Golf Club.
  • Golf (Women’s): Women’s golf takes second at home (April 30, 2014) – “After a strong firs day at the Northeast Elite Invitational at Taconic Golf Club, women’s golf was narrowly outscored by Methodist, which shot 620, and finished in second overall with a score of 622. NESCAC foes Middlebury and Amherst finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.” Continue reading here.

Peter Crane ’16 notched an important assist in the men’s win.
  • Lacrosse (Men’s): Men’s lacrosse downs Middlebury in quarters (April 30, 2014) – “Men’s lacrosse (10-6, 6-4 in the NESCAC) knocked off Middlebury twice last week, downing them in the first round of the NESCAC tournament after beating them in the final game of the regular season.” Continue reading here.

  • Tennis (Men’s): Men’s tennis earns at-large NCAA bid (May 7, 2014) – “Men’s tennis (15-6, 7-2 in the NESCAC) fell in last weekend’s NESCAC Championship semifinals but earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Div. III tournament field where it will look to defend its title.” Continue reading here.

Maria Pylypiv ’15 did not allow her opponents to win a game in doubles play, defeating them by a combined 16-0 last weekend.
  • Tennis (Women’s): Ephs cruise to quarterfinals, look to defend title (May 14, 2014) – “Last weekend, women’s tennis (21-2, 7-1 in the NESCAC) competed in the second and third rounds of the NCAA Div. III Tournament. The women were successful in both of their matches, defeating Ithaca on Saturday and conference foe Tufts the next day to move o nto the quarterfinals.” Continue reading here.
  • Tennis (Women’s): Women’s track triumphs at NESCAC Championships (April 30, 2014) – “Last Saturday, women’s track earned a decisive victory at the NESCAC Championship meet hosted at Colby by defeating Tufts, last year’s NESCAC champions, by 53 points.” Continue reading here.

25 Years Ago (Spring 1999)

  • Baseball: Baseball beats Bantams, Jeffs (April 27, 1999) – “Watching the double-header between Williams and Trinity on Saturday was a little like seeing a twelve-round championship boxing match, followed up with an unrestrained Ultimate Fighting Championship slugfest.” Continue reading here.

  • Lacrosse (Men’s): Jeffs fall in quadruple overtime (May 4, 1999) – “The atmosphere at Cole Field on Saturday afternoon had all the elements for ideal athletic competition at Williams. Clear skies, a warm sun, emotional fans and most important of all, Amherst.” Continue reading here.
  • Lacrosse (Women’s): Women’s Lacrosse beats Bantams; win streak at six (April 20, 1999) – “It was an outstanding week for the Williams women’s lacrosse team. They added three victories to their record and increased their win streak to six.” Continue reading here.
  • Softball: Softball sweeps Smith, Wesleyan (April 27, 1999) – “Starting the week with a two-game sweep of Smith in a monsoon, and ending the weekend with a solid 3-2 record from the Trinity Tournament, the Williams softball team continued to extend their winning record to 19-9.” Continue reading here.

  • Tennis (Men’s): Men’s Tennis aces NESCAC’s (April 27, 1999) – “It was a great weekend for the Ephs as they dominated the NESCAC Championships held at Amherst. Williams won the team title for the seventh consecutive year. In addition, Eph players made the final round in every flight. Of the nine flights, seven were won by Williams.” Continue reading here.
  • Tennis (Women’s): Women’s Tennis tops competition (April 20, 1999) – “The women’s tennis team had a successful weekend, defeating MIT, Bowdoin and Smith. The Ephs defeated MIT 8-1 at home on Friday night, winning all of their singles matches in straight sets.” Continue reading here.
  • Track & Field (Men’s): Men’s Track claims eighth consecutive NESCAC title (April 27, 1999) – “Inspired by superlative performances by Paul Alsdorf ’99 and Dan McCue ’99 at Penn Relays earlier in the week, the Williams College Men’s Track and field team took care of business and claimed its eighth straight NESCAC title on Saturday and Sunday at Connecticut College.” Continue reading here.
  • Track & Field (Women’s): Ephs capture NESCAC title with no time to spare (April 27, 1999) – “They knew it would be a nail biter, but they didn’t expect it to all come down to the anchor runner of the final relay. Yet the women’s track team pulled out the win over Middlebury to claim NESCAC title and reassert their prominence in the New England.” Continue reading here.

  • Sailing: Williams Sailing starts new tradition (April 27, 1999) – “This Saturday, in freezing-cold water and winds that built to over 25 knots, the Williams Sailing Team took second place in a regatta against Amherst and Middlebury. Held on Lake Pontoosuc, this was the first home regatta that Williams has held since 1937 wen the Williams Yachtsmen handily defeated Amherst in an impromptu race.” Continue reading here.

  • Water Polo (Women’s): Water Polo tops Rochester in thriller (April 20, 1999) – “The women’s water polo defeated the University of Rochester and Clumbia University this past weekend. The Ephs were led by senior Jessica Green, who scored nine points against Rochester.” Continue reading here.

50 Years Ago (Spring 1974)

  • Baseball: Baseball tops Trinity in ninth, 4-3 (April 20, 1974) – “The Williams and Trinity baseball teams exchanged gifts at Weston field on Tuesday afternoon, but although Trinity was more generous (two gifts to one) it took a check swing bloop single by Mike McKelvey in the bottom of the ninth to seal the 4-3 victory in the season opener.” Continue reading here.
  • Crew (Women’s): Women’s crew impressive vs. Syracuse (April 20, 1974) – “The Williams Women’s Crew, a third place finisher in last year’s New Englands, traveled to Washington, D.C. over Spring ‘vacation’ to prepare for the spring season.” Continue reading here.
  • Tennis (Men’s): Netmen crush Trinity, 8-1, U Mass, 9-0 (April 12, 1974) – “If you spent spring vacation in Williamstown, the last thing you probably would have heard anyone say was ‘Tennis, anyone?’ Yet, while the snow fell outdoors, the 1974 varsity tennis team took full advantage of Lansing Chapman rink.” Continue reading here.
  • Track & Field (Men’s): Cindermen race past loop rivals (May 9, 1974) – “For the first time in eleven years Williams annexed the Little Three title in track.
