10 Years Ago (Winter 2010-2011)
- Women’s Alpine – Eph with Olympic Dreams Skies for Puerto Rico at Worlds – February 23rd, 2011 – “Kristina Krone ’13 didn’t spend Winter Carnival on campus with her friends or racing with her team at the alpine ski team’s Dartmouth Carnival. Instead, the sophomore spent the last week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, competing in the slalom and giant slalom (GS) sections of the World Championships.” Continue reading here.
- Men’s Swim and Dive – Men’s Swimming Powers to NESCAC Title – March 2nd, 2011 – “Men’s swimming and diving won the NESCAC title at Bowdoin this weekend after holding off a strong late run from Amherst. The men saw their 103-lead cut to just three points after the first two events on Sunday before regaining their lead to claim the team’s ninth consecutive NESCAC Championship title. The final score of the meet saw Williams best Amherst by a margin of 1741.5 -1641.5.” Continue reading here.
- Nordic – Skiing Races to 5th at Dartmouth – February 16th, 2011 – “Skiing competed in the Dartmouth Carnival on Friday and Saturday, with alpine and nordic combining for a fifth-place overall finish. UVM claimed first place, while host school Dartmouth took second.” Continue reading here.
- Women’s Squash – Women’s Squash Battles to 2nd at CSA Team Nationals – February 23rd, 2011 – “Women’s squash traveled to Princeton this weekend to compete in the National Team Championships. Ranked 11th in the nation and seeded third in the ‘B’ division draw behind Middlebury and Brown entering the competition, the women were coming off two rough losses from the last week of regular season play. Despite their recent struggles, the team came prepared to finish its season on a high note, finishing second overall in the tournament after a hard fought match against Brown on Sunday.” Continue reading here.
- Women’s Swim and Dive – Women’s Swimming Crushes NESCAC Foes – February 23rd, 2011 – “Women’s swimming and diving ravage the competition at the NESCAC Championships this weekend. Hosting the three-day competition as the top-ranked team, the women put together a commanding 1961-point victory to bury Amherst in second place with 1637 points. - Women’s Track and Field – Women’s Track Impresses Against New England Rivals – March 2nd, 2011 – “Women’s track and field sent a small contingent to the All-New England Open Championship in Boston on Saturday to compete against some of the top Div. I athletes in New England. The women also took first in the New England Div. III Championship on Feb. 18-19.” Continue reading here.
25 Years Ago (Winter 1995-1996)
- Women’s Ice Hockey – Skaters Debut with Pair of Wins – November 21st, 1995 – “Coming off last season’s 11-6-5 record, the Williams women’s hockey team opened its 1995-1996 season with two big wins at home, crushing the Colgate Red Raiders 7-1 Sunday afternoon and turning away the Continentals of Hamilton in a 4-0 shutout a day earlier.” Continue reading here.
- Men’s Track and Field – Tracksters Take Gold at ECAC’s – March 5th, 1996 – “Williams College blew away the competition this weekend at the ECAC meet with five first place finishes, two second place finishes and a fifth place finish. Wheaton College hosted the championship meet, where the Ephmen won the gold with a total of 68 points. Tufts turned in a strong showing with 44 points and Springfield went home with third.” Continue reading here.
- Men’s Alpine – Winter Carnival Comes to Snowy Williamstown – February 20th, 1996 – “The weekend’s Winter Carnival was marked by beautiful weather, technical difficulties and some great individual performances. Friday, a failure of the timing system led to the cancellation of the giant slalom at Jiminy Peak. Despite the abridged alpine portion of the carnival, the Williams women wound their way to an overall fifth, while the men turned in a strong seventh place finish.” Continue reading here.
- Women’s Basketball – Women Upset 15th Ranked Lady Jeffs – January 16th, 1996 – “Whatever pre-game edge Amherst brought with them disappeared almost immediately after tip-off, however, as the Ephwomen jumped out to a quick eleven point lead on the strength of three consecutive baskets by senior co-captain Tita Thompson. Thompson’s counterpart, lightning-quick point guard Kate Cinella, kept Amherst in the game by combining a hounding style of defense with an uncanny ability to take her 5’1″ frame to the hoop.” Continue reading here.
- Wrestling – Wrestlers Take Fourth at New England Meet – February 20th, 1996 – “The varsity wrestling team wrapped up an eventful season with a bang this weekend, taking 4th place out of thirteen teams in the New England championships. ‘Everybody on the team wrestled up to their level best, and it was an extremely strong team effort,’ commented coach Scott Lewis. ‘As a whole, Williams has never performed more decisively on the mat as they did on their way to placing 4th in the tourney,’ Lewis said.” Continue reading here.

- Men’s Basketball – Cagers Down Cardinals – February 9th, 1971 – “Saturday evening in Lasell Gymnasium a very large turnout saw the Williams Varsity Basketball squad humiliate Wesleyan, 65-49.” Continue reading here.
- Men’s Squash – Griffin, Highly Ranked, Leads Raquetmen – February 9th, 1971 – “Tyler Griffin, a junior from Devon, Pa., recently secured a high national intercollegiate squash ranking by defeating Palmer Page of the University of Pennsylvania and Sandy MacAdoo of Princeton, the top ranked intercollegiate players in the nation last year.” Continue reading here.
- Men’s Ice Hockey – Varsity Hockey Defeats Army – January 27th, 1971 – “The Williams Hockey team, in the most dramatic turnaround of the season, after two disappointing defeats, upset a heavily favored Army squad, 4-3, in sudden-death overtime. Sophomore center Mike Segell scored two goals, his second with four seconds remaining in the game, to send it into overtime, and Doug Morell, a defenseman and also a sophomore scored the winning goal, six minutes into the overtime period.” Continue reading here.
