10 Years Ago (Winter 2014)

- Basketball (Men’s): Men’s basketball punches ticket to Final Four (Mar 19, 2014) – “Men’s basketball (27-4, 9-1 in the NESCAC) sailed through the Sweet 16 and the Elite Eight at the NCAA Div. III tournament in Fredericksburg, Va., last weekend.” Continue reading here.

- Basketball (Women’s): Women’s basketball tops Wesleyan in OT (Feb 19, 2014) – “Women’s basketball (20-4, 6-4 in the NESCAC) finished its regular season on Saturday with an exciting 76-71 over-time victory at Wesleyan.” Continue reading here.
- Ice Hockey (Men’s): Offense powers men’s hockey into semi-finals (Mar 5, 2014) – “Last Saturday, men’s hockey (15-7-3, 10-5-3 in the NESCAC) downed Colby 7-3 to advance to the NESCAC semifinals this weekend, hosted by Trinity. - Ice Hockey (Women’s): Ephs claim first NESCAC title in program history (Mar 12, 2014) – “On Saturday, women’s hockey (15-9-3, 9-4-3 in the NESCAC) downed No. 8 Conn. College 2-0 to advance to the NESCAC finals. On Sunday, the women crushed Bowdoin 4-1 to claim the program’s first-ever NESCAC title.” Continue reading here.
- Skiing: Skiing races to season-best fifth place (Feb 19, 2014) – “After an onslaught of snow delayed the Williams Carnival for several hours last Friday, competition began that spanned the weekend and saw nordic and alpine skiing to season-best times on their home turf and a fifth-place finish.” Continue reading here.
- Squash (Men’s): Foehl wins inaugural title for men’s squash (Feb 12, 2014) – “Last weekend, the inaugural Div. III Individual Championships saw lots of purple and gold as the men entered six competitors into the tournament with fantastic results.” Continue reading here.

- Swimming & Diving: Ephs reclaim NESCAC throne in record-setting fashion (Feb 19, 2014) – “Women’s swimming and diving (8-0) hosted the NESCAC Championship at the Samuelson-Muir Pool last weekend, hoping to regain its conference title after losing to rival Amherst last year. After an undefeated season, the Ephs continued their dominance, claiming the NESCAC title by a record-setting margin and with a record point total.” Continue reading here.
- Track & Field: Track collects eleven All-American honors (Mar 19, 2014) – “Last weekend, women’s track tied for fifth at the NCAA Div. III Championships with 24 points after entering the meet at No. 7 in the nation. Men’s track sent just one runner to Nationals.” Continue reading here.
- Wrestling: Wrestling seizes two third place finishes at Nationals (Mar 19, 2014) – “Williams sent two wrestlers to the NCAA Div. III tournament last weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. - Basketball (Men’s): Men win ECAC; Sheehy sets Williams win record (Mar 9, 1999) – “The Williams College Men’s basketball team ended their season on Sunday, going out as champions at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Tournament.” Continue reading here.

- Basketball (Women’s): Women advance to the NCAA Regional Finals (Mar 9, 1999) – “Coming off of their best regular season ever, the Williams Women continued their winning ways this weekend as they blew past Bowdoin on Saturday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament by the final of 72-58.” Continue reading here.
- Ice Hockey (Men’s): Hockey opens up the ECAC tourney on fire (Mar 2, 1999) – “In the first round of ECAC post-season play, the Williams Ephs dominated visiting New England College, winning by the final of 8-3.” Continue reading here.
- Ice Hockey (Women’s): Women’s Hockey beats Jeffs; ends season on a high note (Mar 2, 1999) – “Despite being eliminated from ECAC playoff contention last week, the Williams women’s ice hockey team had much to play for this week, most notably a chance to end their season on a winning note and to improve upon last year’s 9-14-2 record.” Continue reading here.

- Swimming & Diving (Men’s): Men’s Swimming captures 12th straight NE title (Mar 2, 1999) – “The Williams Men’s ’99 Swimming and Diving Team won their twelfth consecutive New England Championship this past weekend at Williams College.” Continue reading here.

- Swimming & Diving (Women’s): Swimming wins 11th consecutive New England title (Feb 23, 1999) – “This past weekend the Williams Women’s Swimming and Diving Team headed up to Bowdoin to prove yet again that there is no better team in New England. ” Continue reading here.
- Track & Field (Men’s): New England Champions (Feb 23, 1999) – “Adversity brings out the best in the Williams College men’s track and field team. 50 Years Ago (Winter 1974)

- Basketball (Men’s): Champ.-bound hoop downs Coast Guard (Mar 5, 1974) – “The Williams varsity basketball team concluded regular season play last Friday night with an easy 80-68 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy. the win brought the Ephs’ record to 14-5 – an impressive showing under first-year coach Curt Tong.” Continue reading here.

- Skiing (Women’s): Women skiers young… but spirited (Feb 26, 1974) – “The Williams College Women’s Ski Team is alive and well and praying for more snow! - Wrestling: Matmen cop fifth in N.E. tourney (Feb 26, 1974) – “Coach Joe Dailey’s Purple grapplers trekked to the U.S. Coach Guard Academy last weekend to compete in the New England wrestling championships and took out some of the frustrations of a disappointing 4-6 season on the finest collegiate wrestlers in the region.” Continue reading here.
- Various: WRRC sets world indoor relay record (Mar 20, 1974) – “The third Annual Williams Road Runners 24-Hour Relay, otherwise known at Relay ’74, followed in the footsteps of its predecessors by going beyond and setting a new world indoor record. Ten Williams distance runners raced 278 miles, 573 yards, surpassing Ohio State’s three-month-old record by three yards short of two miles.” Continue reading here.
