Williams’ outdoor athletic facilities—Cole Fields, the tennis courts, the track, and both turf fields at the Weston Athletic Complex—are closed to the public. Current Faculty, staff, and students enrolled in on-campus instruction are permitted to use these outdoor athletic facilities for personal and informal use or exercise.
The outdoor paddle tennis courts will be unlocked starting Wednesday 2/24 for students enrolled for on-campus instruction only. They are not open to remote students living locally, nor are they open to faculty/staff or local community members. Campus Safety will unlock the courts daily at 8am and lock at 9pm, which is when the lights that illuminate the court shut off.
Everyone will be expected to practice social distancing, wear a facial covering at all times and follow all public health protocols as outlined in the Massachusetts State and Williams College guidelines.
Use of college athletic facilities to participate in close contact pickup sports and games, such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, lacrosse, rugby, and spikeball is prohibited.
The College has decided to limit the use of outdoor athletic facilities to individual recreation that can be done while maintaining distance from others and limiting the sharing of equipment. You may work on individual skills in small groups, such as playing catch, shooting on a goal, or tossing a Frisbee provided you maintain appropriate distance.
Varsity and club practices and physical education classes will be managed and supervised by Athletic Department staff and will progress slowly, following recommended sport resocialization phasing guidelines and adhering to strict disinfection protocols.
Athletics staff will begin their structured activities starting on Monday, February 22nd. You may see physical education classes and varsity cohort practices outdoors. Signage will mark these designated areas for these activities. These facilities will be closed to other users during these classes and practices. For your convenience, check the schedules below before heading to an outside venue, and please be respectful if asked to leave.
